Government CRC Scheme - April 2010
UK Gov't CRC Scheme - effective from April 2010
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a new, mandatory, energy saving and carbon emissions reduction scheme for the UK. It will act as an incentive to improve energy efficiency and will help large private and public sector organisations generate cost savings through reduced energy bills. These savings should exceed the cost of participating.
The CRC starts in April 2010. If you qualify for the CRC scheme you will have to register via a purpose built on-line CRC registry between 1 April and 30 September 2010 and either register as a CRC participant or make an information disclosure. We are currently producing guidance explaining how to register for CRC and what information your organisation will need in order to so.
Qualification for CRC depends on how much electricity your organisation consumed through half hourly meters during 2008. To identify how your organisation qualifies for CRC you will have to understand the structure of your organisation and know the entire organisation’s electricity consumption during the qualification year, 2008.
If during the qualification year you had at least one HHM settled on the half hourly market and you consumed:
- less than 6,000 MWh of electricity through all of your HHMs, you are required to make an Information Disclosure; or
- more than 6,000 MWh of electricity through all of your HHMs, or you are a central government organisation, you are required to register as a Participant.
